Features of the dissertation on psychology

Scientific work can be prepared in a discipline such as psychology. The approach to writing is special and requires the fulfillment of certain requirements that are guaranteed to lead to success.

Work begins with the choice of a theme and here, it would seem, there is nothing special. However, the topic should be chosen as a narrow focus to implement a deep study. Yes, and on a narrowly specialized topic, you can more accurately pick up the literature and exercise strict control of the information that will be used in the thesis.

The dissertation on psychology must meet certain requirements:

Unity – which involves the creation of a thesis in which all parts and paragraphs will be interconnected with each other, and not to represent individual chapters in different directions.

Systematic – provides for consideration of the elements of the study as a common system, without distinction into its component parts.

Connectivity – information must relate to each other.

A feature of the thesis on psychology is to build it on the basis of data from an already conducted study. Materials must be reliable and have a scientific focus.

Speaking about the structure, the dissertation on psychology is based on the classical scheme, which presupposes the presence in the work of the introduction, the main part and the conclusions of the research results. Of course, each of the parts must comply with its purpose and content.

In the introduction, the purpose of the study is formulated, the tasks are defined, the practical significance is characterized, and the relevance of the topic is described.

The main part may consist of several sections in which the description of the conducted research and the results obtained are carried out.

The conclusion includes the summarized work, recommendations.

Considering that the dissertation is a scientific work, it is necessary to prepare for it thoroughly. In order for the content to correspond to the topic, it is necessary to perform a monotonous work on drawing up a dissertation plan, especially since it must still be approved by its supervisor. Drawing up a plan can take a lot of time since it requires a detailed study of the literature and the selection of information that will be used in the thesis. There is no need to type too much material, you still will not be able to put it into work in full. Therefore, the best option would be to work hard on each item of the dissertation.

Requirements for dissertation registration in APA style

The titles of articles, monographs, and journals in English should be transliterated in Latin and translated into English. For example, Ilyin M.V. Stabilization of development // Megatrends of world development. M., 2001. P. 183-191 (description in the “List of references” according to State Standard). Transliteration can be done automatically using translit.ru, the transliteration mode should be chosen LC (Library of Congress). When referring to translated literature in References, the original edition should be indicated.

In the text of your work, references serve as a brief reference to the full bibliographic description of the work given in the list of references. Usually, the link is placed in the text of your work. If the link becomes cumbersome (in the case of several works, or if the link is accompanied by additional explanations), it may be placed in a footnote. If you indicate the source as such, without quoting or implying a specific place from it, then in parentheses it is enough to indicate the author’s name and year of publication of the work: (Arendt, 2012) or (Marchart, 2010).

If several texts are indicated, references to them are separated by a semicolon (Arendt, 2012; Marchart, 2010).

If you quote or refer to a specific place in the work, then the link also indicates the corresponding page (s) of work, for example:

(Arendt, 2012, 56) or (Marchart, 2010, 23-24).

The references to historical texts for correct orientation in chronology are used to indicate the dating of the first publication of the work (reading the report or completing the manuscript). In this case, along with the year of publication of the publication that is cited in your text, the year of the first publication of the work, reading the report, etc. is indicated in square brackets.

For example: (Husserl, 2009 [1911]).

At the same time, an explanation regarding the citation rule is given in the reference on the first case of a similar citation.

An example of a clarifying reference: (Husserl, 2012 [1911], 243. – Here and hereafter, the year of the first publication of the work is indicated in square brackets)

An example of bibliographic description, in this case, is in the section below in the section “Examples of references to the text published in a multi-volume edition).

NB! The need for this kind of design can be clarified with the supervisor.
